Feng Shui and Fountains

The theory of Feng Shui originated in ancient

China. According to this science, people in a room are affected by the way things are placed in it. The word ‘Feng’ means ‘wind’ and ‘Shui’ means ‘water’. So arranging wind and water in a particular way inside a room can have a positive impact on the people who live or work in that room. Feng Shui believes in the perfect balance between the 5 elements namely the water, earth, fire, wood and metal. It is the perfect harmony of these elements that leads to a peaceful and productive existence.

There is a deep relationship between Feng Shui and fountains. In ancient

China and also in other parts of the world, water was the sign of prosperity and abundance. Indoor fountains provide a way for water to flow within the room and that in a very stylish way. The rippling effect of a waterfall or a stream not only looks good, but it is also healthy as the production of negative ions can ground the polluting elements such as dust. Indoor fountains can also add to the humidity which is good in certain environments.

Fountains are preferred in Feng Shui because water brings in positive energy. But the relationship between Feng Shui and fountains will be determined by Bagua map. This is a map that will determine how the various elements are affecting the life of the person who stays or works in the room. Based on the findings it will be decided which corner of the room is best for placing the fountain.

For example fire is related to reputation and fame and the southern area of the room is best for it. So placing a fountain (which is represented by water) in the southern part may not be beneficial. Actually this will work against the individual because water and fire are exactly opposite. The theory of Feng Shui and water features also say that placing fountains in the bedroom may not be a good idea.

The theory of Feng Shui believes that water in a fountain should be slow moving, because slow moving water aids the accumulation of ‘chi’. Fountains should be placed on the left side of the front door, and the best places are the southwest, the southeast, the east and the north corner of a room.

So if you believe in Feng Shui place your fountains in these corners and your wealth and fortune is sure to be on the rise.
